ATTITUDES FOR GODLY DEVELOPMENT: “TRUTH”

July 5, 2026 / DR. LARRY LAMB

INTRODUCTION

  • Being feeling-based and not biblically solid in convictions results in a shallow foundation built on compromise.

“If your foundation is feelings instead of truth, correction will always feel offensive. Eventually, you will create a version of Jesus that comforts your flesh instead of transforming your character.” Anonymous

  • 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
  • Colossians 2:8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

TWO VIEWS THAT CAUSE TENSION

  • Ephesians 6:10-12 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
  • The clash against God’s truth is obvious and will only intensify.
  • Ephesians 6:12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

The Biblical Worldview

  • Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman.
Genesis 2:24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
  • God is the creator of life; therefore, life in the womb and out of the womb is of the living God.
Jeremiah 1:5 I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.
Psalm 139:13-16 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
  • God’s Word is true, authoritative, and wise.
  • God’s Word has never been accepted by the masses, so you may have to stand alone.
  • God’s Word will outlast the loudest critic.
  • Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.

THREE GROUPS

1. My truth is my truth.

  • Judges 17:6 (Judges 21.25) In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

2. The mixture.

  • 1 Kings 18:21 Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the people were completely silent.
  • Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

3. The Biblical worldview.

  • Genesis 3:1 “Did God really say…” – satan
  • John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
  • We are all depraved and in need of grace.
  • Romans 3:23 For all have sinned…

The only source of comfort in the final stage of life is grasping the truth of God’s clear words from His Word. Jesus came to seek and save the lost.

SALVATION PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty of my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can’t do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. In Your name. Amen.
