ABANDONED BY GOD – PART 2

The depth of a person’s faith in Jesus comes down to this: Is God’s truth shaping my life?

God’s truth is not up for a vote or a discussion. God’s truth is God’s truth, and wise is the person who aligns with what is true.

When the mind is altered by deception, the behavior is altered to express a living lie.

• Romans 1:24 – God abandons people to their sins (let them go to the sin they love)
• Romans 1:25 – They trade God’s truth for a lie.
• Romans 1:26-27 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.
• Romans 1:28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.
• Romans 1:29-31 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. 30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. 31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy.

People who think the acknowledgment of God is foolish follow the decadent leaning of their hearts. The characteristic is this: Defiance.

• Proverbs 4:23
  • People can reject the Living God but cannot reject the consequences of their choice.
  • People can suppress God’s truth, but they cannot suppress God’s abandonment.
  • People can try hiding sin, but God brings it into the light.
  • People attempt to reduce sin to a mere mistake, but God knows that sin destroys.
  • People might believe that their sophistication has moved them from the silly notion of sin; God has not moved away from His position.

• Matthew 15:7-9
• Romans 1:32 They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

2. The triumph over sin, a hard heart, and the fallacy of independence were achieved on the Cross of Christ. He died for sinners so sinners could live for Him.

Do you want lasting joy in a world racing to the city limits of Hell? Run to Jesus with open arms in remorseful humility, and let Him hold you and cover you in your sin. How? He died for us as THE substitutionary gift. He died for sinners so sinners could live for Him.

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty for my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can’t do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. In Your name. Amen.
