MIDWEEK: THE PURPOSE OF THE CHURCH
March 26, 2025 / PASTOR SETH BROOKSINTRODUCTION
- Romans 15:5-6 5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, 6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We as individuals exist to glorify God, we as a church also exist to glorify God.
“The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever”
-Westminster Shorter Catechism
- As a church we glorify God in:
1.
2.
3.
1. IN EXALTING GOD
- Isaiah 48:9-11 9 “For my name’s sake I defer my anger; for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off. 10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. 11 For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.
- Worship is a lifestyle of in song, reading and understating the word, and prayer.
2. IN EDIFYING BELIEVERS
- Colossians 1:27-28 27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
- The Church is in the business of not only creating converts but !
3. IN EVANGELIZING THE LOST
- Matthew 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
“The salvation of sinners brings glory to God and instills His people with a contagious joy. Conversely, churches that ignore or devalue evangelism will experience stagnation and decline”
-Richard Mayhue
- The Church participates in evangelism both locally and .
SALVATION PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty for my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can’t do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. In Your name. Amen.
