INTRODUCTION
There is great joy in living, as opposed to living.
- A mark of a foolish person is choosing to live by what they believe is right rather than by what says is right.
- Life’s not problem-free, but with wise stewardship, it’s less cluttered.
- Psalm 1
1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2 But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. 4 But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. 5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. 6 For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
WISE LIFE STEWARDSHIP
Wise life stewardship in Scripture means recognizing that all of life to God and is to be managed for His glory.
- Ephesians 5:15-17
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. - Wise stewardship is a of faith in action: living because God is Master over work, family, money, and daily habits.
- How a person uses time what they love.
- Wise stewardship means treating hours and days as God’s gift and them in things of value rather than in mere temporary pleasure.
- Biblical stewardship means I am a to God.
- Being a slave to sin is oppressive; being a slave to God is .
- 1 Corinthians 6:18-20
18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
“True Christianity is not about adding Jesus to my life. Instead, it is about devoting myself completely to Him—submitting wholly to His will and seeking to please Him above all else. It demands dying to self and following the Master, no matter the cost. In other words, to be a Christian is to be Christ’s slave.” John F. McArthur
PARABLE ABOUT OWNERS AND SLAVES
- Matthew 25:14-18
14 Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip. 16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money. - We own nothing, yet we’re with the responsibility to be wise stewards of the owner’s assets.
- Stewardship to God is not optional or some voluntary extra.
- Matthew 25:19-25
19 After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ 21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together! 22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’ 23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ 24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
Three Qualities of Faithfulness:
- Thorough, not careless (1 Corinthians 10:31).
- Honorable, not selfless
- Godly, not selfish (1 Peter 1:13-16).
- Godliness is a highlighted throughout the New Testament. It means being like God, mirroring God’s character.
- It’s not a to be a slave to the Living God. It’s a to serve our God with humility, respect, faith, and trust.
SALVATION PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty of my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can’t do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. In Your name. Amen.
