JUDE 1 – MESSAGE #1

July 6, 2025   /   Cielo Vista Church

INTRODUCTION

  • The book of Jude is a brief letter at the end of the New Testament that offers both and .
  • Encouragement to deep roots of faith in Jesus, and a cautionary tone to be of fake Christian teachers who seek to dilute and destroy your faith.
  • As we study this book, keep in mind that Jude offers both encouragement and warnings.
  • There is a great deal for us to learn from God about warnings today. For the , various warnings mean something.
  • Here’s a type of warning from God: 1 Peter 5:8-9 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
  • Jude, is the barometer on the wall of the church that reads: WARNING.

JUDE 1a

  • Jude 1a This letter is from Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James.
  • Being a slave of Christ Jesus indicates that the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus transformed Jude’s life. He’s been bought with a price – the price of Jesus’ bloody death on the cross, and Jude identifies as a slave. No ; only responsibilities. No but Jesus’ agenda and no life but a life in Jesus.
  • Romans 1:1 This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach his Good News.
  • Philippians 1:1 This letter is from Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus.
  • 2 Peter 1:1 This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ.
  • It’s a letter from a willing slave of Jesus, but then he mentions that he is the half-brother of James. Who is James? This James is the half-brother of .
  • There was a time during Jesus’ life when his brothers and sisters did not believe in Him.
  • Matthew 13:54-57 He returned to Nazareth, his hometown. When he taught there in the synagogue, everyone was amazed and said, “Where does he get this wisdom and the power to do miracles?” 55 Then they scoffed, “He’s just the carpenter’s son, and we know Mary, his mother, and his brothers—James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas. 56 All his sisters live right here among us. Where did he learn all these things?” 57 And they were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family.” And so he did only a few miracles there because of their unbelief.
  • Do you have family members far from God? They have watched your life and seen changes in you. Be encouraged, and never stop praying, speaking to them, and living a life of faith before them.
  • Once, an unbelieving half-brother of Jesus eventually came to faith and wrote a book in the Bible.
  • Jude was not interested in himself.
    • No rights to myself. –
    • No agenda but Christ. –
    • No life but Christ. –
  • Galatians 2:20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

As time goes by, the way people live outweighs the words they use. If they live well, time is their friend.

SALVATION PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty for my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can’t do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I receive joyfully receive Your gift of GRACE. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
