TITUS SERIES, WEEK 5: “GRACE THAT GIVES NEW LIFE”

• Titus 1:1 This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have been sent to proclaim faith to those God has chosen and to teach them to know the truth that shows them how to live godly lives.
• Galatians 1:11-12 11 Dear brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning. 12 I received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ.
• The source or the origin of this message is God.
• The message is proclaimed and received by people.
• People are discipled and taught.
• Men of godly character were chosen as spiritual leaders to teach and help those struggling with sin.
• Titus 2:10b Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way.

• Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.
• Paul identifies the defining moment in a person’s life: the moment of Salvation.
• Romans 1:15-16 15 So I am eager to come to you in Rome, too, to preach the Good News. 16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes…
• 2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
• The way we live is a visible expression of true faith.
• This doesn’t mean people are perfect. It means people of genuine faith are now going in the right direction; towards Christlikeness.

• Titus 2:12 12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God…
• Grace teaches us to turn away from sin and toward a wise and righteous life devoted to God.
• John 1:12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
• Ephesians 5:1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.
• God’s grace not only saves us from eternal punishment, but it also guides us through life to know how and how not we should live.

• Earthly hope: Wishful thinking.
• Biblical hope: A firm expectation that we will receive God’s promises in the future (blessed hope or blessed assurance).
• While we wait for this to happen, we should continue to live (v.12), rejecting sinful pleasures and instead live with wisdom, righteousness and devotion to God.

• As believers, we are called to persevere in our devotion to God.

• Titus 2:14 He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
• A person cannot have a new life apart from faith in the crucified and risen Christ.
• The cost of our freedom was so high that no human could ever pay for it, but Christ’s death is enough to save anyone and powerful enough to change their lives.
• Ephesians 1:7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

• Titus 2:15 You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.
• Titus has the authority to teach about God’s grace and a new way of life for the believer because this is not his message, it is not Paul’s message, it is God’s message, and it is God’s plan.
• Titus had the authority to confront incorrect teaching about grace.
  • A supposed grace that delivers people from hell but not from their sinful lifestyles is cheap grace and not real grace.
  • A supposed grace that accepts sinners but does not transform them is cheap grace and therefore not God’s grace but man-made fake grace.
  • God’s grace transforms lives through the miracle of salvation that is only possible because Jesus died in our place.
• 1 John 4:9-10 9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

• Salvation is available to you now because of God’s grace.
• Receive God’s grace at the foot of the cross by repenting and believing, and that’s where your new life will begin.
• 2 Corinthians 5:15 He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
• If you want to live for Jesus, start right where you are. Surrender your life to Him and let God guide you the rest of the way.
• There is no sin too great that Christ’s sacrifice can’t forgive. There is no lifestyle too wild that God’s power cannot change.

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty of my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can’t do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. In Your name. Amen.
