JUDE 1b
- Jude 1-2 1 This letter is from Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. I am writing to all who have been called by God the Father, who loves you and keeps you safe in the care of Jesus Christ.
- The truth is this: God people to salvation.
- Notice these biblical passages:
- Romans 8:33
- Titus 1:1
- Colossians 3:12
- Ephesians 1:4
- 1 Peter 1:2
- 1 Peter 1:20
- John 15:16
- John 1:12-13
- 2 Thessalonians 2:13
- John 6:37
- Acts 13:48
- Ephesians 2:8
- Romans 8:29-30
- Ephesians 1:11-12
- Romans 9:14-20 Are we saying, then, that God was unfair? Of course not! 15 For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.” 16 So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it. 17 For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh, “I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you and to spread my fame throughout the earth.” 18 So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen. 19 Well then, you might say, “Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?” 20 No, don’t say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?”
“I never have to reconcile friends. Divine sovereignty and human responsibility have never been at odds with each other. I do not need to reconcile what God has joined together.” – Charles Spurgeon
- “The recipients of this letter are described in three ways.
- They are “called” by .
- They are “loved” by God the .
- They are “kept” for Jesus .
JUDE 2
- Jude 2 May God give you more and more mercy, peace, and love.
-
- is God NOT giving us what we deserve. Because of our sin, we deserve God’s condemnation, but He spares us because Christ was punished in our place.
- refers to the end of hostility with God; whereas we once were his enemies, we have now been adopted into his family. In the OT, peace or shalom communicated the state of wholeness and completeness.
- is demonstrated on the cross. It’s more than a feeling; biblically speaking, it is a commitment of the will to seek the ultimate good of another (1 Corinthians 13).
- 1 John 4:20-21 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? 21 And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.
- We are called by God, then set apart for God that we might enjoy love from God.
- Knowing that God’s mercy is extended to me gives me , because my sins are forgiven, and it deepens my love for my God.
- I don’t deserve His mercy, peace, and love. That’s why the Bible calls salvation a .
- Are you in the family of God? Is Christ your Lord and Savior?
SALVATION PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty for my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can’t do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I receive joyfully receive Your gift of GRACE. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
