INTRODUCTION

  • It’s common to get close to people and, at some point, get our feelings hurt, acquire bruised emotions, and pick up an .
  • The careless actions and thoughtless words of others have caused many of the in our lives.
  • Due to our sinful nature, it’s possible to pain to someone when arguments escalate, and words pierce our emotions.

FORGIVENESS CLEANSES THE HEART AND SOUL

  • conflicts with others eventually take a toll on us.
  • Learning to others and ourselves is one of the biggest challenges we will ever face.
  • If we don’t forgive, it will be one of the biggest drains on our as Christ-followers.
  • Matthew 6:12 …and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
  • From a human point of view, about the trial, verdict, beating, and crucifixion of Jesus was unfair.
  • Luke 23.34 Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.
  • Infractions occur frequently, but not every infraction is of draining our emotional account to zero balance.
  • Some things done to us are just Infractions – It’s a minor deal, but we throw it into the life-altering category.
  • The maturity challenge for us all is to open our Bibles to the explicit instruction on forgiveness and do the thing: forgive the offender at the earliest opportunity before it escalates.
  • Colossians 3.12-15 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
  • The nature of making allowance for each other’s faults will get tested .
  • Is there an exaggerated offender that you need to make some allowance for?
  • Is there an exaggerated infraction that has taken a toll on you? Matthew 6:12; Luke 23:34; 1 Corinthians 13:5

Celebrate Recovery Prayer of Forgiveness

Dear God,

I’m so tired of resisting forgiving those who have hurt me. I’ve piled up the offenses and have kept an inventory, and as a result, my heart is sick with the heaviness of bitterness.

I know it’s time for me to surrender and trust that Your power will lead me to forgive and let go of all the pain. I know that forgiving doesn’t mean forgetting. Forgiving doesn’t erase the wrongdoing. But I want the peace that You promise when I release the need to get even and choose to forgive. I long for that kind of peace. Teach me how to do this. I want to offer the same no-strings-attached forgiveness to others that You have shown me. I can’t do it alone, but I know that in my weakness, You are strong, and in that I hold my hope.

In Jesus’ name. Amen

SALVATION PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty for my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I cannot resolve my situation on my own. I sense that You are calling me to faith. I am being drawn to the truth of the gospel. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the living God. I desire to be Your child and to live as Your child. In Your name. Amen.
